Perfect Peace

"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee." (Isaiah 26:3). Most Christians that we talk to express a desire to know the will of God, and so few realize that God is lucid in revealing His will in the Book He has written - the Bible. God’s will for all believers is to know His peace, and He has made a provision, making it attainable, for all who have trusted in His Son.

The peace that the world offers is a temporary peace because it is based on what is happening at the moment, and is a false peace. Even while the TV and the newspapers are shouting "Peace, Peace," there is destruction outside the door. The world’s peace can be taken away in a moment, but the peace that we receive from the Lord cannot be taken from us. He tells us, "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you, not as the world giveth, give I unto you." (John 14:27).

The world cannot understand God’s peace. A former pastor of Moody Church would remind us, quite often, that all believers have an invisible support. When we are experiencing deep sorrow or disappointment, we have His peace guarding our hearts and minds (Philippians 4:7). God never withdraws our peace, but we may not enjoy His peace when our minds are on other things. We need to realize that there are many things to focus on, good things as well as vain things, but there is nothing as important and beneficial as being occupied with our Lord Jesus Christ.

We need to realize, as we study God’s Word, that God is the ultimate Author. He is the only One we can trust completely. He has stated many truths that are for all dispensations, and this verse is a perfect example of that. God has promised His perfect peace to those who trust in Him and are occupied with Him.

The Church Age believer has so many wonderful provisions because of our union with Christ, but we need to be aware of the distractions that rob us of reaching our full potential. I use a time organizer. My daily planner helps me in so many ways, but my favorite benefit is being helped to realize the need of sorting out the important from the unimportant. We can be busy all day, but busy with the unimportant while the important matters are overlooked. I am so glad that God realizes that we need to be reminded, over and over again, of important truths that can change our lives. One very important fact is that without Him we can do nothing, while with Him we can do all things (John 15:5, Philippians 4:13). He gives us perfect peace as we meditate on Him. The 11th chapter of Hebrews is a great encouragement to believers. It tells us about men and women who pleased God because they trusted in what He revealed to them. When we trust Him, we will be free from anxiety, we will know His perfect peace, we will not question Him, nor blame Him for problems that we experience. We will keep on rejoicing in Him.
