"This I recall to my mind, therefore have I
hope. It is of the Lord's mercies that we
are not consumed, because His
compassions fail not. They are new every
morning: great is Thy faithfulness. "
(Lamentations 3:21-23).
God has blessed all believers and given us a perfect provision in Christ. He has provided His Word to guide us in our walk with Him, and given us many examples in the Bible to inspire us when we think that we have problems that cannot be solved. Jeremiah is one of the examples of this truth. Jeremiah was called by God to be His prophet! He was to give the lord's message to a people who had turned their backs on God, and were worshipping the idols of the heathen round about them instead of the true and living God who had delivered them from the slavery that they had known in Egypt. God's message to the people was that unless they turned to Him they would experience untold suffering and sorrows. Instead of listening to Jeremiah, who was giving them the Word of God, they were eager to hear the message of the false prophets. Jeremiah was called the weeping prophet because he came to know personally the love that God had for His people. It broke his heart to see them worshipping false gods when the living God had blessed them and provided all their needs. God asked Jeremiah, "What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?" (Jeremiah 2:5).He pleads with them to consider the nations round about them and see if any of them have changed their gods, which are no gods (Jeremiah 2:11). The majority of the people not only rejected God's message but also decided to get rid of His messenger. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible demonstrates to us God's faithfulness to the believer, and the life of Jeremiah is another example of that. What Jeremiah feared, and had warned the people was sure to take place unless they returned to God, was happening before his eyes. Jerusalem, the city that he loved, once full of people was now solitary. Children that he had once held on his lap were taken captive by their enemies. Many others were slain in the streets. The temple dressed with gold and silver and the richest of tapestry, now lay in ashes, and their enemies were rejoicing in their victory over the people of God. The only hope that he had was in the faithfulness of God. The Bible tells us in Job 5:7, "Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward." Our only hope, in our journey here on earth, is to remember that He will never leave us nor forsake us. His compassions fail not, they are new every morning. Dear Christian friend, no matter what problem you are facing today, you can cast all of your cares upon Him; for He careth for you (1 Peter 5:7). Our enemy, Satan, is always ready to plant doubt in our hearts and minds concerning God, His faithfulness, and His Word, but the more we learn about God, revealed in His Word, the easier it will be to trust Him. The outstanding men and women of the 11th chapter of Hebrews pleased God because they believed His message to them.
