Session 1 -

What is really precipitating recent particularist attacks against and artficially stimulated political discussion of the Boy Scouts of America and their values by homosexual activists? Is it is about the moral and religious convictions of BSA, which often conflict with those of the gay community? Consider BSA precepts:

BSA Mission Statement:
The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

Scout Oath:
On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.

If the cultural values and ideals held by some groups of Americans continually present as systematic attacks designed to silence the values and competing points of view other groups, and often through the use of coordinated and coopted political force and media, would not this activity itself actually be counter to many of the very values and ideals that Americans hold so dearly?
