session1
Galatians 2/Galatians 15 – Jerusalem Council – Legalism destroys the purity of grace – Acts 15 – proper Christian attitude toward judgment and the unsaved – Paul and Barnabas discuss grace to Gentiles with church leaders and legalists – letter delivered to Antioch – Acts 16 – Paul circumcises Timothy – Galatians 1 – Paul chosen by God as apostle to Gentiles – in Galatians 2 Paul says he went to Jerusalem by revelation; Acts 15 says church sent him; both true – Galatians 2 – Paul goes to Peter, James, and John privately first – Paul reminds Galatians that Titus was at Jerusalem Council and wasn’t circumcised – Accommodation is of people at expense of personal liberty, not compromise of doctrine – Paul was there to declare doctrine, not to get permission

session2
Galatians 2 – behind the scenes at the Jerusalem Council – Paul didn’t go to Jerusalem to get approval from Jerusalem, but to instruct Jerusalem – Paul’s dispute with Peter – Peter acted duplicitously; ate with Gentiles until men came from James – 2 Peter 3:10-16 – Peter calls Paul’s letters Scripture, one of which contains a rebuke of himself by Paul – In Acts 16, Paul circumcises Timothy, who was already saved, so as to have a hearing with the Jews – Did Paul act duplicitously? – No, this was accommodation – Galatians 3:11 is a reference to established truth in Habbukuk

session3
Galatians 3 & 4 – Paul draws the line at what is required for salvation – days and seasons – Legalism brings gossip – Legalism destroys grace – Galatians 5 – Do we hold the freedom that was bought with the blood of Christ so cheaply as to want to be bound by the law again? – legalism brings forth works of the flesh – grace brings forth fruit of the Spirit – Galatians 6 – Paul boasted in Christ and not in circumcision – about stigmata and tattoos
